As a government law attorney, also involved in politics, Alexander P. Heckler is recognized for strategically assisting clients at the local, state, and national levels. Additionally, for several clients, Alex serves as national government law counsel.

Experience

Alex’s approach to government relations and his clients’ business development is about much more than simply reacting to procurement opportunities. Instead, Alex proactively educates government officials and private companies about new ideas, products, and more beneficial ways to operate critical projects. Alex represents clients in various aspects of government law, including legislation, procurement solicitations and contracts, bid protests, government franchises, cable and telecommunications regulations, and minority and small business certification. Alex’s experience working with government agencies, cities, counties, and state legislatures is vital to clients in the public and private sectors. From companies pursuing a government contract to public agencies seeking counsel, he counsels clients in government business areas.

In his work with real estate developers, Alex handles various aspects of land development and permitting, including land use plan amendments, platting, zoning, site plan approval, variances, and land use due diligence. Alex and his clients are currently redeveloping several general aviation airports. He also represents affordable, attainable, and workforce housing developers, including identifying projects and helping to obtain funds from local, county, and state governments and agencies. In addition, Alex works closely with airports, seaports, and transit agencies throughout the country. Finally, Alex has also lectured on Government Contracting for a Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education program.

Alex is a respected elections lawyer, having represented candidates on many recounts in Florida. With the enactment of HB 257 several years ago, requiring the re-introduction of paper ballots, Alex took a leadership role in the certification and recount procedures for the new machines. His election law experience involves referenda and ballot questions, statewide constitutional amendments, municipal redistricting, and other issues.
